In this workshop, I will guide you through 25 abstract sessions. Gather your paints, scribble sticks, oil pastels, and etc. And a devotional, for instance Come Away, My Beloved by Frances J. Roberts, as inspiration. Bibles work too. 😉
This is a creative time with the Lord — a bunch of joy and Spirit-filled paint and mixed media sessions where we explore:
- design ideas
- color combinations
- paintings/abstracts based on Who and what you are sensing
Most, if not all, are 30 minutes or less. (oops - one squeezed over...) However, this does not include my bitty sketches, which are ofter a reference for the piece and done during my morning quiet time with Him. It has become my practice to really chew on a devotion for a few days. And sometimes I even create a few smaller pieces in preparation for the "larger" (only 8x8) piece. (These are not included. I don't think.)
You need to know:
- Do what you can, when you can. You do not need to fit 'creating' into x-number-of-minutes.
- Your imagination was created by God. When I was leading a ministry school, we learned that often a fleeting thought (or vision) was His prodding. Yet we dismissed it as a (fleeting) nonsense. All that to say, use your God-given imagination! Try new stuff! Let go and let your art happen.
- The object of the workshop is not to copy what I am doing, but to listen and explore with the Holy Spirit. I'm just the guide - the technique guru, so-to-speak. You are the Spirit-filled artist.
An exclusive Facebook page is available to members of the workshop. This is a great place to connect and ask questions. https://www.facebook.com/groups/comeawayworkshop/ Note that this group will only be open until May 31, 2019.
When my son was born over 30 years ago, I turned my brief free moments toward art. Now, as a full-time artist, I create to inspire and encourage not only myself, but you, too!
Second only to my passion for Jesus and creating, I find I have a passion for teaching others. My mom always wanted me to be a teacher—she was one pretty smart lady. Whether you are a beginner or have been doing art for years, you will enjoy my “hey – we can do this!” attitude. Because that’s what I say to myself every day!
I seem to grow more and more curious all the time. So I am constantly learning and often share this with you too. Letting you know what works and what maybe doesn’t.
Join me at my blog, on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. Some of my mini abstracts are for sale on my website, for mini prices. Prints and cards, most featuring the some super cute birds, are available and Etsy. You might enjoy my book(let): Bible Journaling: Honoring the Spirit. More on my book page.
Let me know how I can help you!
Jesus and art are my passions. “As for me, I will praise the Lord.” (Psalm 104:35)

There are 2 goals to these abstracts.
First, and most importantly, spend time in the Word and in His presence.
Second, to explore and experiment. Have fun.
Hugs and happy creating!
